For Immediate Release: Thursday April 17, 2003

The multi-award winning documentary Aftermath: The Remnants of War By Toronto's Storyline Entertainment was acquired by Robert Redford's Sundance Channel in the US nnd will be re-broadcast in Canada on History Channel April 25 at 9pm and midnight.

"Aftermath" is a word rife with negative connotations, of trauma and slow, painful recovery. Suitably, the documentary Aftermath: The Remnants Of War, by Toronto's Storyline Entertainment, is an arresting study of the devastations wreaked by 20th century war and the people today whose mission it is to clean up the remnants of war, often decades after the fact.

Ironically, the aftermath of this multi award-winning feature length documentary's release has been unwaveringly positive. At last, Aftermath - which has already amassed an endless amount of awards, rave reviews and excited word-of-mouth at festivals and feature venues around the world - is making a move to the educated mainstream via an acquisition deal with the Sundance Channel in the United States. This marks the first US broadcast of the film, which will begin airing in October of 2003.

Under the creative direction of Robert Redford since its inception in 1996, Sundance Channel brings television viewers daring and engaging feature films, shorts, documentaries, world cinema and animation, shown uncut and with no commercials. Through its original programs, Sundance Channel connects viewers with filmmakers, the creative process, and the world of independent film.

" Aftermath is extremely topical and relevant at this moment in history," says Christian Vesper, Sundance Channel Entertainment's Vice President Acquisitions. "It is exactly the kind of Intelligent, challenging and engaging filmmaking we seek to program for Sundance Channel's weekly destination DOCday. "

The talented trio of Canadian filmmakers - Producers Ed Barreveld, Michael Kot and Director Daniel Sekulich - makes up the team of Storyline Entertainment, who along with the National Film Board co-produced the mesmerizing documentary Aftermath: The Remnants of War.

" When Storyline Entertainment originally approached the National Film Board to co-produce Aftermath," says NFB Producer Peter Starr, "I knew we had an important film on our hands. Then, as now, Aftermath has a vital message for the world, and with this sale to Sundance Channel, that message continues to resonate."

"We're delighted to finally see Aftermath sold to the US market," says Storyline Entertainment's Producer Ed Barreveld. "When we finished the film we had no idea that the 21st century would have such a violent start. With the war in Iraq, the film's message has lost none of its potency and should be a powerful reminder that wars don't end when the soldiers return home."

Aftermath: The Remnants of War is based on the Gelber Prize winning book of the same title by American author Donovan Webster. Filmed on location in Russia, Vietnam, Bosnia and France, Aftermath follows the true stories of people who continue to work under hazardous conditions to clean up their countries after war, and reveals not only the human suffering caused by the lingering repercussions of toxic chemicals, landmines and unexploded artillery, but also that war never really ends.

Recently nominated for a Gemini Award, History Television will re-broadcast Aftermath on Friday April 25 at 9pm and 12 midnight.

Also coming up for Aftermath is the Commonwealth Film Festival in the UK, where the film has been accepted to be programmed as part of ScreenPeace, a special focus on war and peace on screen, and will compete for the Audience Award for Best Documentary. This is scheduled for June 12, 2003 at Cornerhouse Cinema in Manchester.
