AFTERMATH: THE REMNANTS OF WAR

Airing as part of History Television's 20th Century Mondays on Monday November 26 at 9 p.m.

The 20th century was the most violent era in human history, but World War I, World War II, the Vietnam War and the Balkan War are not over ...

In this haunting film, survivors and witnesses of conflicts that spanned the 20th century remain enfolded in the aftermath of war through constant peril and grief that time cannot erase.

Filmed on location in Russia, Vietnam, Bosnia and France, Aftermath: The Remnants of War follows the true stories of people for whom the collision of nations has turned into a lasting personal tragedy. The agony of combat does not end with truces and treaties. It lingers for generations in the souls of those who must endure the aftermath of war.

" This emotionally-charged film opens our eyes to the devastating impact war has on future generations. " says Sydney Suissa, Senior Vice President of Factual Programming, Alliance Atlantis Broadcasting.

Peter Starr, Producer for the National Film Board of Canada remarks, "This documentary is a horrific reminder that the carnage of war continues long after the last shot is fired. For the NFB, it was an important story that had to be told and I am extremely pleased to have been involved with such an excellent team of filmmakers."

Bruce Cockburn, singer/songwriter and long-time advocate for banning landmines comments: " In Aftermath, we see that the shockwave set in motion by World War I is still rolling on, as is the one set in motion by World War II. We say to ourselves 'what were they thinking?' Then the film brings us closer in time and we are forced to realize that, whatever it was they-we-are thinking it still."

"If we are ever to learn from the past, we need works like this powerful and moving film."
